Bassil to Announce Decision That Will Leave Grave Repercussions Concerning Fuel Price Cuts
Local Editor
Lebanese Energy and Water Minister in the caretaker government Gibran Bassil referred that on Saturday he will be declaring an announcement that will leave grave repercussions.
He also stressed that all sides should hold the responsibility to put an end to the current issue of not approving a cut in fuel prices.
In an interview with Al-Akhbar newspaper, Bassil stated that the officials responsible should hurry in implementing the decision to decrease the fuel expenses according to the legal mechanism, or else they would be facing the people's outrage in case of a fuel or price crisis.
Bassil refused to state the content of his decision, yet he stated that his decision comes as an update to Thursday's decision of caretaker Finance Minister Rayya Hasan, not abiding by the request of a 3300 L.L cut in fuel prices.
Minister Gibran Bassil stated that the Energy Ministry has conducted a judicial review against officials in the customs board and the Finance Ministry, because they obstructed the decision of fuel price cuts.
He added that these officials also disobeyed the implementation of resolutions that are part of the Energy Minister's authorities under the law and decree 12480/2004.
