Muslim Brotherhood: Detention of Deposed Mubarak and Sons First Step Towards Justice
Local Editor
The Muslim Brotherhood group called the detention of deposed President Husni Mubarak and his two sons a first step towards achieving justice.
"It was the least thing the government could do," said group member Sobhi Saleh. "They need to arrest all governors and local council leaders as well." Saleh said there would be a new million-man demonstration on Friday now that Mubarak and his sons have been arrested.
Brotherhood member Helmy al-Gazar said Mubarak had a chance to achieve reform and social justice when he was in power but wasted it in favor of enriching himself and his family.
Earlier on Wednesday, Egypt's ex-president Husni Mubarak was placed in detention for 15 days, prosecutors said shortly after state media reported his two sons had also been detained.
Police said that Gamal and Alaa arrived at a Cairo prison where they will be detained for 15 days on suspicion of involvement in killing protesters and corruption. Nearly 800 people died during the uprising.
