Mehmanparast: Turkey’s NATO Missile System Serves West Domination, Imperialistic Policies

The Islamic Republic of Iran criticized Turkey for hosting the North Atlantic Treaty Organization's missile defense system. Iran's foreign ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast, Iran does not expect Turkey as a neighbor and friendly country to adopt policies that would create tension in the region, reported Mehr News Agency.
"In line with its fundamental policies which stress disarmament and refraining from any military approaches, Iran denounces every measure which leads to the militarization of international atmosphere and therefore causes arms races in the world and the region," Mehmanparast said on Thursday.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran believes strengthening the presence of NATO in the region is a [source of] insecurity that has no result but sustaining the West's domination and the continuation of its imperialistic policies," he added.
The official said that the NATO missile system is the continuation of the same suspicious project pursued by the United States in East Europe for a long time.
In his statement, the spokesperson underscored that the US seeks to proceed with its hegemonic policies to change regional security elements in pursuit of the West's interests.
"We expect our friendly countries and neighbors to show more vigilance and by considering the region's security interests do not pave the way for policies that create tension that will definitely lead to ‘complicated consequences'," he further noted.
