Iran's Majlis (parliament) Speaker Ali Larijani has lashed out at hostile American policies against the Islamic Republic, insisting that such "huge blunders" will prove costly for Washington, reported IRIB.

In an interview with al-Aalam Arabic-language news on Sunday, LArijani said that "If the United States generates trouble for Iran, it will certainly incur costs for the effort."
He noted that it was very clear that American officials have always pursued antagonistic policies towards Iran, emphasizing that this is among their major faults.

Pointing to US threats to impose further sanctions on Iran, Larijani stated that Washington's sanctions will not achieve much.

He added that US politicians are not familiar with the region and still assume that their interests would be served by dictators, which is a strategic mistake.
Larijani warned regional countries to be cautious about US plots to sow discord among them and said that Washington's policies are merely detrimental to the region.

He stated that the US has been irked by recent popular uprisings in the Middle East and North Africa and therefore seeks to drive friction among regional countries through a variety of schemes.

The official also said Iran has strategic difference with the US and questioned Washington's support for authoritarian regimes in the region.

He discharged allegations against Iran about the country's interference in popular regional developments, saying such futile accusations will strengthen Tehran's determination to continue its "political support" for people of the region.
