Local Editor
President Bashar al-Assad on Monday met a Russian delegation including journalists, intellectuals, academics and activists from different youth organizations and parties.
The talks dealt with the recent events taking place in Syria and their regional and international repercussions, with President al-Assad expressing great appreciation of Russia's objective stance towards what is happening in Syria.
For their part, the delegation members stressed the importance of visiting Syria to inspect the reality of what is taking place in light of the misleading practiced by some media.
The delegation members condemned what is being hatched against Syria and the lies and fabrications aimed at destabilizing the country.
The historic relations between the friendly people of the two countries and the importance of further boosting them were touched upon during the meeting.
In a statement to SANA, member of the International Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology Dr. Uzdinova Stella, said ''The meeting with President Bashar al-Assad made a wonderful impression and left us assured of his correct outlook on reality.''
''We discussed a host of issues during the meeting, and our questions were duly answered by Mr. President,'' she said, adding that the talks focused on political issues and Syria's relations with Russia and the world countries.
Stella added ''President al-Assad thanked the Russian leadership and people for their stances concerning the events in Syria away from the impact of the misleading media.''
Elissa Shichkina, a professor at the Higher School of Economics in Moscow, said that the meeting with President al-Assad provided the delegation members with answers for their questions, adding that the delegation made their viewpoint clear to President al-Assad concerning the events in Syria.
Johan Backman, professor of Social and Political Sciences at Helsinki University, said "It has been a pleasure meeting President al-Assad, for he represents the Syrian people, that's why we felt as if we met the Syrian people.''
He added that President al-Assad had given a wise analysis on the situation in Syria, the Syrian policy and economy and the ME policy, as well as the Syrian-Russian relations and Syria's relations with the world countries.
The Russian delegation is comprised of parliamentary candidates, journalists and youths representing popular and civil organizations.
The delegation started a visit to Syria on November 19th to express solidarity with Syria and inspect the reality of situation on the ground and convey the real image to the Russian people.
