In an unprecedented move, the Arab League Ministerial Council approved on Sunday imposing economic and financial sanctions on Syria, Iraq reserved and Lebanon abstained.

The sanctions included suspending and halting the inter-Arab trade transactions with Syria, stopping financial deals in addition to stopping deal with the Central Bank of Syria.

They also included suspending establishment of Arab projects on the Syrian lands and halting any governmental trade transactions by the Arab central banks with the Central bank of Syria.

The resolution asked the Arab central banks to monitor the banking transfers, excluding transfers by the Arab citizens in Syria and the Syrian employment transfers abroad.

As for the flights from and into Syria, the Arab Ministerial Council asked the executive technical Committee to submit a report during one week to the Ministerial Committee to fix a time for halting flights from and into Syria.

The sanctions also prevented Syrian senior officials from travelling to the Arab countries and freezing their assets there.
It's obvious that the resolution targets the economic, financial and trade activities which directly affect the Syrian people.

Secretary General of the Arab Economic Unit Council, Ambassador Mohammad al-Rabei admitted last Wednesday that targeting any economic sector in Syria, whether in agriculture or industry, will have repercussions on the Syrian people.
The resolution comes after the US and European countries including France and UK provoked for imposing such sanctions on Syria, stressing their support to impose the sanctions by the Arab League.

Meanwhile, huge masses on Sunday flocked to Saba Bahrat Square in Damascus in response to popular, civil and party invitations to express rejection of the Arab League (AL) decisions against Syria and the foreign interference and in support of the national independent decision.
