Al-Maliki: Sanctions on Syria Harm People Not Regime
Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki affirmed Friday his country's rejection of imposing economic sanctions on any country, saying that such sanctions harm people of the countries in question.
The statement, made during al-Maliki's meeting with intellectuals and academic figures participating in a strategic studies conference in Baghdad, is a reference to Iraq's rejection of the sanctions imposed by the Arab League on Syria.
"We reject imposing economic sanctions against any other countries no matter the reason, because this will harm the people, not the regimes," al-Maliki said.
Earlier, Baghdad voiced reservations over the AL's decision to impose economic and financial sanctions on Syria.
