As-Safir: Russia- Iran Active in Syria- Muslim Brotherhood Mediation

"As-Safir" Lebanese paper reported Thursday that Islamic Lebanese sources have informed that both the Russian and Iranian leaderships are active again to mediate between the Syrian officials and the Muslim Brotherhood leadership to politically resolve the Syrian crisis away from any military intervention.

Mentioning that some Lebanese Islamic personalities were informed from leaders in "Muslim Brotherhood" that "the parties have been convinced that the military solutions are not fruitful," "as-Safir" learned from the Lebanese sources that "al-Assad is serious in reaching a political solution."

Lebanese figures quoted al-Assad as saying that "he was comfortable with the internal Syrian situation as well as to some regional and international atmosphere
."

The Syrian President also noted to "the failure of all external pressures aiming at influencing the Syrian situation," expressing his satisfaction with the relationship with Russia, Iran and their positive roles in protecting Syria."

Informing that "al-Assad didn't close the door for mediations with the opposition forces especially the Muslim Brotherhood," al-Assad conditioned that the movement must take positive steps towards the system."

"Military and security forces are seeking control of tension hotbeds in some areas of Syria, especially in the city of Homs and the surrounding area," al-Assad stressed to Lebanese figures.

Emphasizing that "Syria's doors will remain open to "Hamas" movement and its leadership as it is a resistance movement regardless of its positions towards the Syrian situation," he vowed that "the Syrian leadership is committed to the Palestinian issue as a matter of principle."

The Islamic Lebanese officials stopped at "Hamas" delegations' visit headed by its official of international relations Osama Hamdan and the membership of its representative in Tehran to the Russian capital.

"Senior Iranian officials contacted recently the President of
Hamas' Political Bureau, Khaled Meshaal, informing him that Iran is ready to move again to mediate between the Syrian opposition and the Syrian regime such that the efforts are to be shared between Iran, "Hamas" Hizbullah parallel to Russian and Iraqi support," Lebanese officials told "as-Safir".

The sources remarked that all parties linked to the Syrian crisis, whether they support the regime or oppose it, realize that any military intervention will not resolve the turmoil, especially after Turkey, the US, France and Qatar are convinced that overthrowing the regime will not happen through supporting the Syrian opposition militarily.

Al-Assad confirmed to his visitors that Syria will be able to confront the Arab League and international economic sanctions imposed on his country.
