Jazayeri: US Lacks Ability to Deter Iran, Iran Seeks Regional Tension Diffusion
Deputy Chairman of Joint Chief of Staff of Iran's Armed Forces Brigadier General Massoud Jazayeri highlighted his country's military abilities, stressing that the US cannot deter the Iranian efforts to shut down the strategic Hormuz straight if Iran saw it was necessary.

"Regardless of their publicity campaigns and propaganda efforts, the Americans are incapable of confronting Iranian actions in a number of spheres, including the potential plan [by Iran] to shut down the Strait of Hormuz", Jazayeri stated on Monday.
The senior general also added that "the principle objective of Iran in the region is to defuse tensions". He further indicated that protecting and guaranteeing security in the Persian Gulf represent the major defense policies of Iran.
"However, if the country's national interests come under threat, the Iranian armed forces will utilize their defensive capabilities to defend the country's sovereignty", General Jazayeri iterated.
This comes in light of recent US stances, claiming Washington's direct response to any Iranian move into blocking the Strait of Hormuz.
Previously on Sunday, the Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ramin Mehmanparast affirmed that his Ministry received a letter from the US regarding the Strait of Hormuz dilemma.
"The US Ambassador to the UN Susan Rice handed a letter to Iran's Ambassador to the UN Mohammad Khazaei; the Swiss Ambassador to Tehran [Livia Leu Agosti] also conveyed the same thing; and Iraq President Jalal Talibani delivered the same message to Iranian officials", Mehmanparast stated in his briefing to the press.
On this level, he indicated that his country's official will examine the letter, and if necessary, it will respond.
