Egyptian MPs Rebuff US Interference, Demand Freeze of Ties
The Defense and National Security Committee of the Egyptian parliament denounced the decision to allow foreigners, including Americans convicted in the "foreign funds" case, to travel, refusing any kind US interference in Egypt's internal affairs, which was evident through the US officials' statements regarding the issue.

Members of the Egyptian parliament demanded the freeze of relations between Egypt and the US, indicating that the authorities should reconsider the US aid and seek alternative sources to arm the Egyptian army, other than the US.
Moreover, the MPs urged the parliament to withdraw confidence from the government, and prosecute all the officials involved in the said case.
In this context, Osama Suleiman, Parliamentary Committee for Freedom and Justice member, stressed that the identity of those involved in the case should be revealed, further demanding their prosecution. He also called for revealing whether the judges had been pressured to lift the flight ban, wondering how the US plane entered Cairo's airport. Suleiman moreover affirmed that summoning the US Ambassador in Cairo would be required at this stage.
On another hand, MP Hamdi Ismail stated, "What happened in the case of the [illicit] foreign funds confirms that we are living a virtual act, and it is very easy for the former regime figures to escape the country without us knowing, like how [indictees] in the foreign funds were able to escape".
Furthermore, MP Ismail affirmed that the Ministers of Justice, Interior, and Civil Air force and Defense should be held "accountable" and prosecuted.
"Activists" from many nationalities, including the US, were accused of receiving illicit foreign funds which they exploited to operate unlicensed Non-Government Organizations. This therefore caused a crisis in the relations between Egypt and the US. Although the Egyptian authorities had issued a travel ban on behalf of all defendants, the trial, which opened on Sunday, lifted the travel ban, and the foreigners made an escape on a US private-plane.
