Syrian Economy Minister: Iran, Gate for Syria’s Economy
Syrian Economy Minister Mohammad Nidal al-Shaar confirmed that "Iran is a new gate for the Syrian economy". He added that the Syrian-Iranian free trade zone is very important for Syria, yet at the same time it is a test for its economy.

During the opening ceremony for the "Syrian-Iranian Free Trade Agreement" forum on Tuesday, Minister Al-Shaar stated, "We learn from previous experiences so that a just agreement would be established, especially that the former agreements signed with some countries were unjust for the Syrian economy".
"A trade agreement is a two-party agreement without any unjust stances towards the other party. We tried to make the free trade agreement, signed with Iran, as relieving as possible, and we overcame former gaps and shortages", Minister al-Shaar added.
Moreover, Syrian Economy Minister asserted, "[...] Iran is a friend country, and there is entanglement in the consumption customs between both countries. In addition, there is a need to share and enhance the developments of [the Iranian-Syrian] trade relations".
"Iran is an economic country, and has many resources; which calls for making use of the economies as should in accordance with the agreement. Also, the developed industry in Syria should be complementary for the Iranian industry and vice-versa", Minister al-Shaar affirmed.
Furthermore, Syria's Minister of Economy noted that his Ministry is negotiating with the Iranian party to launch the free trade zone agreement for one year, which would reflect positively on Syria's economy.
He also added that if the said agreement succeeds, then it would be a model for other agreements sought to be signed on different levels with Russia, Ukraine, and Kirghizistan.
