As the situation in Syria has become calmer with the serious cooperative reform steps conducted by the regime, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad paid an inspection field visit on Tuesday to Baba Amr Quarter in the Governorate of Homs.
During his visit, President al-Assad met with the residents of the area, who were affected by the attacks of the armed terrorist groups, iterating his regime's readiness to carry out its duty and responsibilities to protect its citizens.

"The State has given those who deviated from the path of right the best of possible opportunities to backtrack and return to the Homeland, and to put down their arms; they ,however, rejected seizing these opportunities and further increased their terrorism. So, there was a must as to work for restoring security, safety, and for imposing the rule of law,'' President al-Assad noted in his address to the Syrian people.
President al-Assad lauded the efforts and sacrifices by the Syrian Army and Police to defend their homeland to maintain stability against foreign-led armed conspiracy campaigns.

On another hand, the UN and Arab League special envoy to Syria Kofi Annan praised the Syrian government for accepting his six-point plan to put an end for the unrest in the country.

After a meeting with Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao, Annan stated, "I indicated that I had received a response from the Syrian government and will be making it public today, which is positive, and we hope to work with them to translate it into action".
This comes after Annan's spokesman Ahmad Fawzi confirmed on Tuesday that Damascus wrote to Annan its acceptance of his six-point initiative, which was supported by the UN Security Council.

Also, Fawzi asserted that Annan believes this represents an important initial step that would create an environment, which would be conductive to a political dialogue that fulfills the legitimate aspirations of the Syrian people.
Among the requirements of Annan's proposal are a ceasefire, access for humanitarian aid agencies, and a political dialogue between the Syrian regime and opposition.
