The Lebanese Army (LA) confirmed Saturday the confiscation of weapons on the board of the ship carrying weapons to Syria' rebels.
According to a statement issued by the LA, "the army intercepted off the northern coast the Sierra Leonean-flagged commercial vessel "Lutfallah2" on Friday."
"The LA accompanied by the relevant authorities inspected the vessel and confiscated three containers with a large quantity of assorted arms as well as heavy, medium and light ammunitions," it clarified.

Moreover, the statement unveiled that the LA detained eleven of the ship's crew members who are of various Arab and foreign nationalities.
Commenting on the incident, the Lebanese President Michel Suleiman hailed the LA's success in intercepting the ship.

"The army's detection of the ship is part of the Lebanese state's decision to preserve the Lebanese civil security and to prevent it from being an open ground for the disputes of others," Suleiman said.
He further stressed that Lebanon mustn't turn to a corridor for settling accounts especially that it had paid a great human and materialistic price."

"The Lebanese army and security forces must remain stressing remain completely vigilant to deter any attempt to create strife or instability in Lebanon or affect its ties with nearby fraternal states given the situation in the region," Suleiman confirmed.
On another hand, Lebanese state commissioner to the military court Judge Saqr Saqr referred the ship's crew to immediate arrest and investigation.
