Due to Tensions in Egypt and Syria, Knesset Recruits 22 Reserve Battalions

Ma'ariv . Hanan Greenberg

The Knesset has allowed the "Israeli" army to recruit thousands of reserve soldiers though they have done one task in three years, as stated by law.

Reserve organization committee: since the issuance of the reserve law, the situation has been very bad. Army spokesman: this procedure takes into account the circumstances.
Not less than 22 reserve battalions may find themselves soon running another operational task in less than three years after the tense security situation on the borders of Egypt and Syria.

The law, which was ratified four years ago, states that reserve soldiers, shall be sent to one operational task every three years, but lately the security establishment requested to override the law, and got approval for this. A reserve soldier, who belongs to the home front command, has received a reserve decree to transfer him to the western borders. "We were serving in Jenin for 2 years and I was sure next time will be next year," he said.
"A 3-week reserve is something we should be ready for, especially if the task is related to something exceptional."
The reserve soldiers of the battalion received a letter from the commander clarifying that "in light of the success of the battalion in the last operation, it has been chosen to run an additional challenging task with practical significance."

"Sensitive borders"

It seems that this battalion isn't the only one. Lately, the army filed a special request to the Knesset's committee of foreign affairs and security asking to ratify 22 battalions to implement more than one task during three consecutive years. The aim behind this request is the need to deploy many forces along the borders of the "state", which turned into being very sensitive. In the new decree, some exceptions of the old reserve law are being listed, for example, recruiting mountain climbers or soldiers of the unit before removing the snow, which is considered as bypassing the law. But the tragic renewal is the emergence of the 22 battalions including Division of Judea and Samaria and the Home Front Command.

Economic considerations

The debate within the army was about sending regular battalions to operational tasks at the expense of other trainings or another call for a reserve. Until now, 6 battalions have been called, taking into consideration economic costs, for calling a reserve battalion to an operation costs millions of shekels.

Yesterday, at the reserve organization committee they said, "Since the enactment of the army's reserve law, the situation of those who reserve has become worse under the pretext of budget deficit. The army has cut the bonuses, retracted from his intention to cover travel expenses which damaged the readiness of fighting units, and it is still going on. The army spokesman declared in his response: "taking into account the situation of several battalions that have been called to serve in the reserve for the second time in three years, this overrun was approved according to the law of the foreign affairs and security committee.

Barak: We will attack Iran during Elections
Army Radio - Na'ama Artchick

"Israeli" Minister of "Defense" Ehud Barak explained yesterday [Wednesday] that the electoral battle in "Israel" won't affect their ability to attack Iran. During a live interview on Facebook, Barak assured that the "executive authority continues to operate as usual during the elections." According to him, "the issue was taken seriously and solemnly." Barak admitted that his party "The Independence" didn't support speeding up the elections in the light of the coalition's stability, but he pointed that he can manage to prepare quickly.

On the other hand, it was reported in the evening that the head of the "Jewish Home" block, MK Uri Orbach is setting up a team with the heads of the National Union prior to the mutual race of the Jewish home and National Union in the next elections. According to Orbach, "internal procedures of any party shouldn't affect the main purpose - increasing the united force of religious Zionism in the Knesset."

Chairman of the finance committee, MK Moshe Gafni, a member of the United Torah Judaism party, estimated that the next elections will cost around 400 million shekels. According to him, several reforms in the legislation process will stop. Yet, Gafni didn't express his opinion on speeding up of elections.
Soon, the PM will elaborate a bill to dissolve the Knesset and organize the elections as soon as possible, i.e. 90 days from the legislation end date. It is possible that Natenyahu might officially announce speeding up the elections next Sunday at the Likud's conference.
