Head of Change and Reform Bloc, MP Michel Aoun, confirmed that the liberation achieved in 2000 represented a great achievement and was a result of a struggle that lasted since 1978; the first "Israeli" invasion of Lebanon.
In a speech delivered during the Resistance and Liberation Day ceremony organized by Hizbullah's Educational Mobilization at the Lebanese University, Aoun stressed that the steadfast national unity, in light of the July 2006 aggression, made Lebanon victorious against "Israel".

He asserted that the July aggression awakened the Arabs from their deep slumber, yet the West still seeks transferring the "Israeli"-Arab conflict to a Sunni-Shiite conflict. Moreover, he referred to attempts to lead the resistance to internal conflicts, describing them as "failing".
Furthermore, MP Aoun regretted that some Lebanese sides are targeting the resistance and neglecting the "Israeli" threat in Lebanon, and indicated that they are trying to synchronize the Syrian events with the Lebanese events, in order to spread chaos and instability.

He affirmed that the only side benefiting from this issue is "Israel", as it now lives in stability and peace, clarifying that "Israel" has interests in Lebanon and Syria; which is the essence of the struggle.
"Our message is to spread awareness in all Arab countries surrounding us, in order to prevent chaos promised by Condoleezza Rice," he said, further adding that Lebanon is based on freedoms, especially freedom of belief.

Commenting on the incident of abducting the Lebanese citizens in Syria by a Syrian opposition faction, Aoun indicated this is "a terrorist act and a grave crime."
