Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri has been following on the situation in Tripoli, especially after violence erupted once again in the northern city of Lebanon.
According to Lebanese daily As-Safir, Berri has been in contact with Prime Minister Najib Mikati and leaders of Tripoli in an attempt to resolve the matter.

At 1:00 a.m. local timing, Berri was informed that the existing sides agreed on ceasefire, reported the source. But soon, Tripoli's Mufti Sheikh Malek al-Sha'ar informed Berri that the situation is only deteriorating and violence is on the rise as mortars showered the city.

Al-Sha'ar urged Berri to interfere in order to stop the situation from worsening.
In a statement to an-Nahar newspaper, Berri pointed out that Tripoli must open the roads for the Lebanese army and security forces so that these two can preserve security and stability in the region.
