General Qahwaji: Army Ready to Close Gaps on Lebanon-Syria Borders

Lebanese Army Commander General Jean Qahwaji confirmed that implementing the army deployment plan on the borders with Syria needs some time; explaining that they are waiting for the retreat of some military forces from their current stations, to contribute in implementing the cabinet's decision.
On this level, Qahwaji indicated that there is a need for a brigade to be deployed in that area, so that the border line is controlled in a better way; knowing that the army forces seek enhancing their role as they are stationed in the tension areas.
In an interview with as-Safir daily, Qahwaji went on to say that the aim of the said plan is to fill the gaps exploited by the armed groups as much as possible; clarifying that it is very hard to control all the borders completely.
Also, the Lebanese Army Commander stressed, "Through enhancing its presence on the border area, the Army is responding to the plea of the people who are refusing any armed presence, and demanding us to interfere and control the security. Therefore the popular cover is more important to us than the political cover."
