Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati stressed the need to support the Lebanese government and security agencies in their work to improve the security situation in the country.
As he headed the government's meeting Wednesday, Mikati reiterated "his support for the security forces' efforts to bring the security situation under control across Lebanon."
He also announced that "Tripoli's calm must be restored and we must prevent anyone from covering up violations."
In parallel, the PM revealed the Lebanese judicial authority have started taking actions to detain people involved in Tripoli's violence. "Some culprits have been arrested," he said.
" Tripoli needs a comprehensive reconciliation, but the basic need remains to convince everyone of the need to keep Lebanon and Tripoli away from the repercussions of the regional events, particularly in Syria," Mikati emphasized.
He also said that the Higher Relief Commission will be tasked, after calm settles over Tripoli, with inspecting the losses that have been inflicted on the city; thus paving the way towards compensations
"The government was the first side to officially tackle the issue of the Lebanese who went missing during the war with the Syrian officials," he said and pointed out that "a national commission for the forcibly disappeared persons will be formed soon."
Mikati further addressed the issue of the recent kidnappings and counter-kidnappings, condemning all such acts and stressing the importance of "measures on the ground to prevent the recurrence of such incidents."
The PM also tackled the issue of Lebanon's chairmanship of Arab foreign ministers meetings, saying it will be an occasion to "underline Lebanon's positive role."
