Syrian state news service said the army has pushed rebels out of a key district on the edge of Damascus, bolstering the defenses of the capital.


Syria Army Retakes Most of Key Damascus AreaSANA stated that the government troops have "restored security and stability to some vital areas" in Jobar, a district on the northeastern edge of Damascus, from which rebels have been trying to push inside the capital for weeks.

Tuesday's report said the army troops pushed "terrorists" from positions they have been using to launch guerrilla operations deep inside the capital and fire mortars into its residential area.

Meanwhile, units of the armed forces ambushed an armed group that fled from Qseir into Homs-Damascus Highway.

SANA reporter quoted a source in the province as saying that the armed forces killed, in an ambush, in Shamsin area a number of terrorists, injured others and seized an RPG launcher.

The source added that another unit of the armed forces killed an armed terrorist group in Jourt al-Shayyah, and killed and injured a number of terrorist in another operation in Wadi al-Saieh and Bab Hud neighborhoods in Homs City.

In the town of Hejjeira, an army unit killed and injured a number of foreign terrorists, destroying their weapons and equipment. Among the dead terrorists were a Libyan called Sarata Abu Habib and Rami Khalifa.

Another unit clashed with Jabhat al-Nusra west of the town of Halboun, eliminating most of its members including Abu Mohammad al-Shami and Abu Firas al-Jazrawi.
