Bahrain announced on Tuesday the arrest of nine men it claimed are linked to Iran and that were planning to attack a prison to facilitate a jail break.
The interior ministry said arms, ammunition and a plan for attacking the prison were seized.

Bahrain Arrests Nine People, Sentences Zainab Al-Khawaja to 2 Months JailAccording to the Bahraini claims, "those arrested belong to a group called Jaish al-Imam, who were planning to carry out attacks on key installations in the country."

"This terrorist cell had links to Iran, Iraq and Lebanon, was busted in February. Eight of its members received weapons and explosives training and were financed from abroad," the Bahraini interior ministry claimed.

In parallel, a court in Bahrain sentenced pro-democracy activist Zainab al-Khawaja to two months in jail for insulting police, opposition sources say.
The decision would mean she stays in jail until February 2014, as she is already serving previous sentences.

Her father Abdulhadi al-Khawaja is also in jail.

In March al-Khawaja was sentenced to three months in prison for "insulting and humiliating a public employee".

Since then she has been sentenced to several additional short terms on other charges which she is serving concurrently.

Her father is among eight activists and opposition figures sentenced to life imprisonment for participating in the uprising.
