A senior Iranian military official says Iran and Lebanese resistance movement, Hezbollah, support the restoration of peace and stability to the violence-stricken Syria.
Major General Rahim Safavi, a senior military advisor to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei described the ongoing conflict in Syria on Wednesday as a "proxy war" waged by the United States and "Israel" through Arab countries and Turkey.

"Most of these mercenaries are linked to al-Qaeda and were trained by Qatar and Saudi Arabia in Afghanistan," he commented.
However, the governments of Bashar al-Assad and Syria's "resilient" army have gained the upper hand in the three-year fight against foreign-backed Takfiri militants, recapturing most of the militant-controlled parts of the country, Rahim-Safavi stated.
He also added that the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is close to achieving victory against these terrorist groups.
According to the top military Iranian official, "President Bashar al-Assad alongside Syrian troops have been fighting for the past three years against the extremist militants in Syria, defeating them in different areas militarily."
