Syria's Minister of Defense, Fahd Jasssem al-Freij, assured that "the Syrian army and people are ready to confront any form of military aggression on the country by Western powers, promising to decisively respond to any attack."
On Friday, al-Freij dismissed claims by Western countries accusing the Syrian government of using chemical weapons in an attack on the suburbs of Damascus last week.

Al-Freij to Dehghan: Syria Prepared to Counter Any Act of Aggression During a telephone conversation with his Iranian counterpart Hussein Dehghan, al-Freij stressed that criminal terrorists have deliberately used chemical weapons, killing women and innocent children to get more support from the West in order to blackout their defeat, thus misleading the public opinion to justify their continued crimes.

In turn, Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehghan said military intervention in Syria will worsen the crisis in the Arab country, causing it to spill over into neighboring states.

"Iran is seriously following the security developments in the region and the crisis in the friendly country of Syria," he said.
"Basically, not only will the use of force and violence fail to relieve tensions but will also intensify the crisis and cause it to spread to other political entities," Dehqan told his Syrian counterpart.

He concluded warning "The real losers of any war in the region will be those who initiate it."
