Syrian President Bashar al-Assad accused the Western leaders of behaving with duplicity and act according to their selfish interests, without understanding the reality or nature..." of the Syrian conflict.
Al-Assad further stated that his country is being confronted with a major offensive by Islamist extremists.
"The country is facing a takfiri ideology," al-Assad said, pointing out that "this is terrorism without limits, an international scourge that could strike anywhere and anytime," he.
Al-Assad made the remarks while receiving what SANA said was a delegation of "academics, researchers and activists" from Australia who had come to express "solidarity" with his government.
The Syrian president also criticized Western leaders, who "behave with duplicity and act according to their selfish interests, without understanding the reality or nature..." of the Syrian conflict.
In parallel, he underlined the importance of visits like this in deepening communication and building cultural bridges among people in order to relay reality as it is and confront attempts of media falsification and misdirection.
For their part, members of the delegation said they will do their best to relay the truth about what they witnessed in Syria, noting that they represent a broad section of the Australian people who support Syria against the multifaceted war targeting it which aims to deplete its people's resources and undermine its integral role in the region.
