Lebanese security sources confirmed that the Lebanese army Intelligence has recently arrested al-Qaeda suspect and Emir of Abdullah Azzam brigades in the Levant, the Saudi national Majed Al-Majed.
The source said the recent incidents that took place in Sidon two weeks ago were aimed at letting him escape.
Al-Majed hails from Saudi Arabia and had headed about a month ago to Syria where he pledged his allegiance to al-Nusra Front chief Abu Mohammad al-Joulani.
Eight years ago, Al-Majed entered to Lebanon and took part in Nahr Al-Bared battle against the Lebanese army and then moved to Ain al-Hilweh camp in Sidon.
Abdullah Azzam brigades claimed responsibility for the firing of rockets on various Lebanese regions and the bombings that targeted the Iranian embassy in Beirut's Bir Hassan neighborhood on November 19.
On December 3, Hezbollah Secretary General Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah said Saudi Arabia is behind the bombing, adding that he has no doubt that the Saudi intelligence agency has close links with the Abdullah Azzam Brigades.
