Hackers announcing to be from the Syrian Electronic Army broke into CNN's Twitter and Facebook accounts and one of the news channel's blogs on Thursday. The hacks occurred amid the Geneva 2 talks between government and opposition representatives.

Syrian Electronic Army Hacks CNN’s Website, TwitterAround 17:45 EST, CNN's Twitter account sent messages such as "Syrian Electronic Army Was Here...Stop lying...All your reports are fake!" and "DON'T FORGET: Al Qaeda is AL CIA da. Funded, armed and controlled."
They also wrote: 'Obama Bin Laden the lord of terror is brewing lies that the Syrian state controls Al Qaeda'.

Over on the Security Clearance blog, the SEA wrote an alarming headline saying: "US declares state of national emergency, State department reportedly out of reach."
On their official Twitter page, the electronic army wrote that the attack was in retaliation for a CNN report "aimed at prolonging the suffering in Syria".
"CNN used its usual formula of present unverifiable information as truth, adopting a report by Qataris against Syria [sic]. Instead of any actual journalism, CNN turned into a loud horn calling for the destruction of the Syrian state.

'US Media strategy is now to hide the fact that the CIA controls and funds Al Qaeda by blaming Syria instead for their terror. The SEA will not stop to pursue these liars and will expose them and their methods for the world to see.'
Once CNN had regained control, it tweeted, "Some of our organization's social media accounts were compromised. We have secured those accounts and are working to remedy the issue."

The Syrian Electronic Army - a collective of hackers sympathetic to Syrian President Bashar Assad - has targeted other news outlets like BBC and NPR, as well as Skype, TIME magazine, and US President Barack Obama's Twitter and Facebook accounts.
