Thousands of Syrian citizens abroad headed to ballot boxes for presidential elections at the country's embassies in several capitals worldwide on Wednesday.

On June 3, the presidenSyrians Abroad to Vote in Presidential Electiontial election will begin in Syria, with a widely expected vote to give Syrian President Bashar al-Assad a third seven-year term in office.

Scores of Syrians in the Lebanese capital of Beirut have gone to the Syrian Embassy since early hours to choose a president to their country.
Most among the elected gathered outside the Syrian Embassy in the Central of Beirut seen to be supporters of al-Assad, holding the Syrian flags and pictures for al-Assad.

According to sources, more than 200,000 people had registered at 39 Syrian embassies abroad.

The Syrian foreign ministry said on Wednesday that, "the UAE has joined the countries plotting against Syria by deciding to prohibit the holding of elections on its territory."

Syrian opposition and its west allies has described this election as ‘illicit'.

The Syrian government, meanwhile, has touted the vote as the political solution to the three-year-long crisis.
