The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution his Eminence Imam Sayyed Ali Khamenei expressed strong opposition on Sunday to US intervention in Iraq, saying Iraqis themselves were able to bring an end to the violence there.

Imam Khamenei: No for US Intervention in Iraq

In remarks to judiciary officials, His Eminence warned that that Washington aimed to keep Iraq under its control and place its own stooges in power.

"The conflict there was not sectarian, but was really between those who wanted Iraq in the US camp and those who sought Iraq's independence," he added, noting that "the arrogant system is using Takfiri militants and the remnants of the ousted regime of executed Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein to destabilize Iraq and threaten the country's territorial integrity".

Imam Khamenei further stated: "We are strongly opposed to US and other countries' intervention in Iraq."

"We don't approve of it, as we believe the Iraqi government, nation and religious authorities are capable of ending the sedition. And God willing, they will do so."
In parallel, the Leader added: "America is not pleased with the ongoing [political] process in Iraq, meaning the wide participation in the elections and selecting their own choice [of representatives], as the US is seeking an Iraq under its hegemony and ruled by its stooges," referring to an Iraqi parliamentary election in April
.
He also referred to the US officials' remarks who are trying to display the conflict in Iraq as a sectarian war, and said, "What has happened in Iraq is not a war between the Shiites and Sunnis and the main elements behind the seditions in Iraq are hostile to the faithful Sunnis and those who believe in Iraq's independence as much as they are hostile to the Shiites."
