Zionist Finance Minister Yair Lapid on Tuesday slammed Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for his decision to appropriate 400 hectares [988 acres] of land in the occupied West Bank, saying that the decision damages "Israel."

Lapid: West Bank Land Grab Hurts ’Israel’ Lapid said at the Calcalist conference in Tel Aviv, "This was a grab that was not brought before the cabinet and at this time simply causes damage to "Israel.""

"We are after a military operation, facing a sensitive international front, and it was difficult for us to maintain the world's support as it is," he said.

"What was so urgent right now to create another crisis with the Americans and the world," he said. "We need more measured policy conduct, and not to generate unnecessary disputes with the United States and the world."

He added that while he supports and will continue to support the "Israeli" settlement blocs in the occupied West Bank, "part of a balanced conduct is the question of when and how you do things."

On Sunday, "Israel" announced plans to expropriate 400 hectares [988 acres], of Palestinian land in the Bethlehem area in the south of the occupied West Bank.

The move has drawn condemnation from the US, Britain and United Nations.
