Clashes broke out between Palestinian worshipers and "Israeli" police in the Al-Aqsa mosque in the Old City of occupied al-Quds early Wednesday, witnesses and a police spokesman said.

Witnesses said that dozens of "Israeli" police officers gathered at the Moroccan Gate early in the morning, and that clashes began in the courtyard opposite the Al-Aqsa Mosque after police forced Palestinians out at gunpoint.

"Israeli" forces fired tear gas, stun grenades, and rubber-coated bullets at Palestinian worshipers.
Fifteen Palestinians were hurt by rubber-coated bullets and shrapnel from stun grenades, and dozens of others suffered from excessive tear gas inhalation, medics inside the compound said.

They added that the clashes became even more intense as Zionist Minister of Housing Uri Ariel entered the compound with a group of right-wing "Israelis".

Additionally, "Israeli" officers also locked the doors of the mosque with chains during the clashes, witnesses added.

Al-Aqsa is located in occupied East al-Quds, which has been occupied by the "Israeli" military since 1967.
