Iran's Commander of Army Ground Force Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan said on Saturday that the country is prepared to inflict blows on "Daesh" [ISIL] extremists in the very depth of the Iraqi soil if they attempt to approach the Iranian borders.

Iran: Ready to Target ISIL in Depth of Iraq if Attempt to Near Border
In comments published on Saturday, Pourdastan stressed that the Iranian army is quite ready to defend its western borders which are close to the regions where Daesh is operating.

Military units are present in Iran's western border region more prepared than ever before, he said.

Furthermore, he stressed that if ever Daesh extremists even thought of approaching the Iranian borders, Iran would target them inside the Iraqi territory.

The Iranian army, he said, is fully prepared to defend the country and will not be taken by surprise ever.

Daesh sent its militants into Iraq in June, quickly seizing large swaths of land straddling the border between Syria and Iraq.

While the United States launched air strikes on Daesh targets in Iraq in August and has since widened them to Syria recently this week, Iran has criticized the air strikes on Syria, saying they would not help restore stability in the region.
