’Israeli’ Army Dismisses Commander for Failing to Staff Lookout during Gaza Aggression
Local Editor
An "Israeli" Paratroop Brigade platoon commander was dismissed from his command for dismantling a lookout position on the Gaza Strip border without orders during the recent aggression on Gaza.
The position, which was established during the fighting on the southern border of the Strip, was supposed to have been manned day and night.
However, the platoon commander decided on his own, and apparently without the knowledge of his superiors, not to keep the position manned during the day.
Many soldiers left the Gaza Strip for a few hours' break at a nearby kibbutz outside the Gaza Strip during the fighting. According to the "Israeli" army, the officer's decision did no harm to the brigade's readiness for battle, but it takes a very dim view of his actions.
The matter was not discovered during the fighting and was kept under wraps by members of the platoon.
The "Israeli" army Spokesman's Office said the incident was a serious one in which the platoon commander and the sergeant had acted "irresponsibly and unprofessionally."
