As the results of the "Israeli" elections revealed the victory of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's Likud party, the odds of the PM heading the Zionist government seemed blurry.

Bibi Wins ’Israeli’ Elections amidst Internal Opposition

With 99.5 percent of the ballots counted, the Likud Party had captured 29 or 30 of the 120 seats in Parliament, sweeping past its chief rival, the center-left Zionist Union alliance, which got 24 seats.

However, it remained to be seen how Bibi's divisive - some said racist - campaign tactics would affect his ability to govern the Zionist entity.

Furthermore, Netanyahu's rival said his party would continue to fight for a better Zionist government as Likud declared its work to build coalition began.

Earlier, Herzog attacked Netanyahu, saying that the prime minister's "panic is embarrassing."
Netanyahu had tried to get out the right-wing vote earlier on Tuesday by warning that Arab voters were going en masse to the polls.

He later warned against voting for the Zionist Union, who he said was supported by the Joint Arab List.
Herzog said in response that "those who want a prime minister that cares about his citizens and doesn't incite or divide must stand up, go out and vote."

He added, "We don't want to suddenly find out tonight that we're getting an extremist government consisting of Netanyahu and Marzel that will tear "Israel" apart."
Conversely, Netanyahu hoped to form a new government within weeks after defying the polls to seal a clear election win.

"The prime minister intends to begin forming the government immediately in order to finish the task within two to three weeks," a party statement said.
