MP Fares criticizes Patriarch Sfeir stance on electoral law
Source: Nowlebanon.com, 5-3-2008
MP Marwan Fares said that Maronite Patriarch Nasrallah Sfeir's stance on the electoral law is eroding Arab efforts to find a solution to the political crisis in Lebanon.
"The electoral law is an important item of the initiative. Sfeir's stance is throwing into question all agreements between the Lebanese, especially the Taif Agreement," Fares said.
He added that Sfeir's favoring constituencies smaller than the caza will increase the existing divisions in Lebanon.
Fares said he is in favor of considering Lebanon as one electoral constituency and holding to the proportionality principle to get rid of sectarianism, which has led to civil war in the past.
