Opposition MP Salhab says conditions set on government, not General Sleiman
Source: Nowlebanon, 7-03-2008
Member of the Change and Reform bloc MP Salim Salhab expressed his hope that Lebanon would "adopt a policy of positive neutrality." He noted that the bloc was willing to amend the conditions set by the opposition - which the ruling majority has said are "impossible" - if these conditions obstructed the election of Army Commander General Michel Sleiman as the next President of the Republic.
In an interview, MP Salhab said the opposition had no trust in the other team.
"We are particularly worried about the issue of (Palestinian) neutralization, which affects the demographic constitution of Lebanon," Salhab stated.
Political feuding between pro-government and opposition movements in Lebanon has resulted in a presidential vaccum since Emile Lahoud stepped down in November. The two camps have been unable to agree on an electoral law and elections have been postponed 15 times.
