Nusra Fails to Abort Qalamoun Battle --- AS-SAFIR
According to As-Safir daily, all attempts of al-Nusra front to abort or at least delay the Qalamoun confrontations have failed. According to the paper, even the ‘pre-emptive' attacks launched by the terrorist groups pushed the Syrian army and Hizbullah to achieve more success and advances.
The Syrian army ambushed ISIL terrorist group in Suwaidaa countryside near Khalediya hill, killing at least 30 militants. The Syrian army and armed forces units also continued Thursday combating terrorism in different areas in the country, killing large number of militants in Daraa, Quneitra, Hamah, Idleb, Latakia, Aleppo and Dir Ezzour.
In addition, sources told the paper that dozens of extremist fighters fled to Lebanon's Arsal, which put the Lebanese army on alert. The sources said the Lebanese army had increased its security measures in the region in an attempt to defend Lebanon and its borders from takfiri threats.
US Suggests Dialogue after Saudi Failure in Yemen?! --- AL-AKHBAR
Well-informed sources told al-Akhbar newspaper that the White House State Secretary had called on Saudi Araba to stop the aggression on Yemen and give space for dialogue in order to reach a political settlement. According to the source, the calls comes especially after the failure of all military attempts to bring about a different situation in the war-torn country, especially after the army and Ansarullah took control over the entire city of Aden and encircled Maareb.
Saudi Arabia Thursday proposed a five-day "humanitarian" ceasefire in Yemen following weeks of its blatant aggression, with top US diplomat John Kerry urging Ansarullah movement to accept the offer.
Field sources from Yemen said that the tribal forces managed to seize eight posts in Najran and Jizan which are located in southwestern Saudi Arabia near the border with Yemen.
Britain's Conservatives Win, No Majority --- AN-NAHAR
British Prime Minister David Cameron's Conservatives were on course to win the most seats in parliament but will be just shy of an outright majority, an exit poll showed Thursday.
The poll put the Conservatives at 316 seats and the opposition Labour Party at 239, after voting closed in a national election.
According to the poll released by national broadcasters, the Scottish National Party was set to make a huge jump from its current six seats - up to 58 - while the centrist Liberal Democrats were on track to secure 10 seats in the 650-seat Westminster parliament.
The combined total of 326 for the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats, who have governed in coalition since 2010, indicated that Cameron should be able to stay in office.
US Resumes Training Fighters in Jordan ---THE GUARDIAN
The American military has started training "moderate" militants in Jordan to fight the ISIL terrorists in Syria, US officials say. The training is underway at a site set up by the US and allies in the "coalition" against ISIL, according to the Guardian.
The US plans to train and arm a force that is set to total more than 15,000 militants by 2018. The program aims to train 5,000 militants annually for the next three years. Training locations are also expected to begin operation in Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
Congress appropriated $500m to train the first group of Syrian fighters in September 2014.
On Wednesday, it was announced by US military officials that hundreds of US troops will begin to train thousands of militants fighting against the ISIL terrorist group in Syria as soon as this week. The United States will also provide the militants with weapons, trucks and tactical radios for their communication.
The current plan is an escalation of a covert CIA program to train Syrian militants, which started in Jordan in 2013.
