Kanso Calls for Undivided Elections
Source: Nowlebanon, 7-03-2008
Former Minister Ali Kanso said that the Lebanese crisis was still an "open crisis" and hoped that the Arab initiative would find a means to end this crisis through the efforts of Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa.
Kanso accused the "February 14" bloc of hampering the Arab initiative. "One day they want the 10-10-10 formula, then they want a parliamentary electoral law based on the 1960 law... all to guarantee the government can continue its rule until the next parliamentary elections."
After meeting with Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri and a delegation representing the Syrian Socialist National Party, Kanso said that the supporters of February 14 would bear the consequences of perpetuating the crisis in Lebanon, as the United States demonstrated it did not want a resolution to the crisis.
"The second point which worries us is the adoption of a parliamentary electoral law based on the smallest possible caza (district)... This is conclusive proof that they want out of the Taif Accord," he continued.
Kanso called for parliamentary elections unrestricted by sect and region.
