Government Rejects All Electoral Laws, Kandil Says
Source: Nowlebanon, March 9, 2008
Former MP Nasser Kandil said the division of Beirut was behind the ruling majority's rejection of the electoral law in any of its forms until present.
Under the auspices of Maronite Partriarch Nasrallah Boutros Sfeir, MP Saad Hariri wanted to divide Beirut to ensure it remained under his control after the next elections, Kandil added.
The former MP noted that the division of Beirut as per the Fouad Boutros law, which was stopped short by the July War before Lebanese parliament had the chance to take it or leave it, was identical to the division delineated by the Ghazi Kanaan electoral law of 2000.
