Change and Reform bloc renews support for 1960 electoral law
Source: NowLebanon, 10-03-2008
The pro-opposition Change and Reform bloc said the war of words disrupted the lives of the Lebanese and froze the possibility for solutions to the political crisis.
The bloc renewed its support for the 1960 electoral law with some amendments and urged the ruling majority to vocalize its suggestions.
After a weekly meeting headed by MP General Michel Aoun, the bloc invited the incumbent government to fulfill its duties in treating the economic and social deterioration of Lebanon.
MP Ibrahim Kanaan said the bloc was surprised with the majority's request that the electoral law be discussed in parliament and with the majority's accusation that the opposition obstructed presidential elections.
Kanaan stated that Prime Minister Fouad Siniora did not represent the true will of the Lebanese in Lebanon and subsequently could not speak in the name of Lebanon. He added that the frequent visits of US officials to Lebanon served their strategy to avert a solution which the Lebanese agreed upon.
