Iran says foreign interference is preventing stability in Lebanon
Source: NowLebanon, 11-03-2008
Teheran said that foreign interference in Lebanon is preventing the country from being stable and called on all states capable of offering help to make efforts to end Lebanon's political crisis.
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ali Husseini said that Iran is still holding consultations with different Lebanese parties. "States capable of helping find a solution should be concerned by these contacts," he said.
The Iranian news agency IRNA quoted Husseini as expressing hope that Lebanese MPs make the appropriate decisions that will help ensure Lebanon's stability once foreign interference in the country is brought to an end.
Iranian Ambassador to Lebanon Mohammed Rida Shibani noted some political developments and said he hopes they lead to a solution.
He also noted intensive efforts from all regional, Arab and Islamic parties to help Lebanon find a solution.
Shibani denied accusations that Iran is trying to prolong the presidential vacuum until 2009, when a new US president is elected. "The vacuum is inappropriate and does not serve any country in the region," he said.
