General Aoun Responds to Shaoul Supporters
Source: Nowlebanon.com, 12-03-2008
The Change and Reform bloc's information office issued a statement on behalf of MP Michel Aoun addressed to "intellectuals in solidarity with Paul Shaoul" in response to objections against a defamation lawsuit Aoun filed against him.
"We support the intellectuals in that the response for a word is a word, and for a thought, a thought," Aoun's statement said. "This principle stands true when there is a word or a thought to respond to, but when alleged intellectuals issue insults, the only response is judicial."
The statement questioned whether the intellectuals who signed a petition in support of artist and journalist Paul Shaoul read the article upon which Aoun based his lawsuit. Aoun called on those who signed the petition to read the article in question and then take the position they saw fit.
"Then they can renew solidarity with Mr. Shaoul or withdraw their solidarity with the language of insults."
