Seniora Fails to Torpedo Arab Initiative
Source: Al Manar TV, 13-03-2008
OIC Foreign Ministers Turn down Seniora's Booby Trapped Proposal
So, Seniora did it again.
After the 'scandals' at the Khartoum and the Riyadh Arab summits in 2006 and 2007, Seniora sought to torpedo the efforts of the Arab initiative to solve Lebanon's ongoing crisis; this time in Dakar where the Organization of the Islamic Conference Summit holds its opening session Thursday.
Foreign Ministers of the OIC member states have turned down a formula proposed by Seniora's delegation to solve the Lebanese crisis. The formula calls for the adoption of a demand to elect a president first and then look into the other details of the Arab initiative; namely forming a national unity government and endorsing a new electoral law. Arab League chief had said during last month's second visit to Beirut that the Arab initiative should not be partitioned but taken as a whole package; to elect a president (Army commander General Michel Suleiman), to form a national unity government and to endorse a new electoral law.
