The Chairman of the National Security and Foreign Policy in the Iranian Majlis [Parliament], Alaeddin Boroujerdi, reiterated his country's position that the Syrian crisis has no military solution.
In an exclusive interview with al-Ahed news, Boroujerdi accused the Americans and their regional and Europeans allies were in favor of a military solution and arming the terrorists.
Moreover, he added, "their retreat and the new desire to reach a political solution to the crisis is due to fact that their military plot failed."
"Those in Syria, who are demanding a peaceful resolution, must respect the democratic rules and give up the demand of President Bashar al-Assad's departure because he was elected by the Syrian people."
The Iranian top official further underscored that "any solution to this crisis must be a Syrian, as the talks must be between the Syrian sides."
"The fate of this country mustn't be decided in Geneva or in any other place," he mentioned.
On the visit of Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif to Damascus, Boroujerdi said that the visit came in the context of strengthening the strategic relationship between the two countries.
Boroujerdi concluded by saying: "Iran gives special importance to relations with the countries of the region, especially the neighboring ones and Zarif's visit comes in this framework."
