Source: Nowlebanon.com, 15-03-2008
Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri called Italian Ambassador to Lebanon Gabriele Checchia condemning the statement of ex-Italian Premier Silvio Berlusconi, who is running for legislative elections, and demanding clarification.
Berlusconi had expressed his intention to withdraw the Italian contingent operating with UNFIL in South Lebanon in case his party wins the elections.
Berri asked Checchia to confirm the statement, which he described as dangerous.
The Italian UNIFIL contingent is the largest in number and is leading all UNIFIL troops in South Lebanon.
