Aoun: Appointing new ministers is a provocation
Source: Nowlebanon, 18-03-2008
MP Michel Aoun said that if PM Fouad Saniora's government appoints new ministers, the wide-reaching section of the Lebanese represented by the opposition will consider it a provocation.
"It is not required to restore the government, but to form a new one on a different basis after holding early legislative elections," Aoun told the Lebanese daily As-Safir.
"I do not recognize the present government, and therefore, it does not have the right to do anything," Aoun said, adding that he views the cabinet as illegitimate.
The FPM leader said he will discuss with his allies in the opposition the appropriate response to any measure the government takes.
"The opposition might put forward a new initiative at the end of the Arab Summit," he said, adding, "This initiative requires specific conditions, which I think will be apparent after the Arab Summit."
Aoun accused the majority of rejecting the election of a new president because it is content with Saniora. "He is not bothering them. Why should they elect someone who will complain if they have someone as responsive as Saniora?" Aoun said.
