Sakr: We are concerned about the security situation in Lebanon
Source: Nowlebanon, 18-03-2008
Speaker of the Arab Parliament Mohammed Jasem Al-Sakr said that his visits to Lebanese political leaders with a delegation of Arab MPs are aimed at supporting the Arab initiative.
"We are worried about the present situation in Lebanon, and we are still encouraging all parties to resume dialogue," Sakr told NOW Lebanon.
"We want to listen to all parties' points of view," he said.
"We are concerned about the security situation in Lebanon, and we think that if the present dispute is not solved, it will lead to violence," he added.
Sakr also said the Arab Parliament is considering the possibility of presiding over a Lebanese national conference, adding that his group's neutrality will increase the chances of its success.
Sakr reiterated his support of the Arab initiative and said that the Arab Parliament will not make any moves until after the Damascus Summit is held.
Sources accompanying the Arab delegation noted its cooperation with Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa and Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri.
