MP Salhab: The Summit will be held in Syria, but it is not a Syrian Summit
Source: Nowlebanon, 17-03-2008
MP Salim Salhab of the Change and Reform bloc said that Lebanon should send a delegation to the Arab Summit in Damascus that includes majority and opposition MPs who will submit a paper including what has been agreed upon during the national dialogue, especially regarding Lebanese-Syrian relations.
"The summit will be held in Syria, but it is not a Syrian summit, and Lebanon must participate, as it is a founding member of the Arab League," Salhab told the Kuwaiti news agency KUNA.
"Lebanon will definitely figure on the summit's agenda, and this is why it is important that Lebanon be present at the summit," he added.
Salhab said it is better for Lebanon's delegation to the summit to be a national one that represents all Lebanese. "A Maronite minister from the present government will not represent all of Lebanon, and it will not lead to expected results," he added.
Salhab noted that the cabinet's delay in making a decision on Lebanon's representation at the summit reflects its lack of a unified stance.
He also ruled out that a presidential-election session will be held on March 25. "Nothing indicates that a session will be held," he said.
Salhab reiterated the FPM's readiness to start a serious dialogue with the majority. "MP Michel Aoun is ready to negotiate with all factions on behalf of the opposition," Salhab said.
