’Israel’ Arrests 7 Suspects in Violence at al-Quds Holy Site
Local Editor
"Israeli" police arrested seven Palestinians Tuesday over suspected involvement in violence at al-Quds' [Jerusalem] most sensitive holy site the previous day.
Spokeswoman Luba Samri said the suspects were connected to Monday's riots in which Palestinians barricaded themselves inside a mosque during a major Jewish holiday.
The hilltop compound in al-Quds' Old City is a frequent flashpoint and its fate is a core issue at the heart of the "Israeli"-Palestinian conflict.
Monday's unrest was the second straight day of violence at the al-Aqsa mosque, where Palestinians have been stockpiling rocks and other projectiles to prevent attacks from "Israeli" troops trying to force them out.
Recent violence at the site had raised worldwide fears of widespread unrest.
The site remained quiet Tuesday but some violent protests broke out elsewhere. In the besieged West Bank city of Ramallah, about 200 protesters took to the streets toward an "Israeli" checkpoint.
However, the forces of the "Israeli" apartheid regime dispersed the protest with tear gas and rubber bullets, injuring five.
Similar clashes took place in Bethlehem as well.
