"Israeli" police said the 25-year-old "Israeli" victim was in a serious condition after being stabbed in the neck near one of al-Quds' main thoroughfares.

The incident occurred near a tramway station close to the national police headquarters, police said.

The teenager, said to be from Shuafat refugee camp in annexed east al-Quds, later tried to take a tramway guard's gun before fleeing. Police initially gave his age as 15 before later correcting it to 19.

"He was arrested by police special forces who were in the area," police spokeswoman Luba Samri said.

In a separate heroic operation, a female "Israeli" soldier was stabbed with a screwdriver in Tel Aviv. Military police said that the Palestinian was later martyred after being shot.

At least four knife attacks had occurred in al-Quds and six overall since Saturday, when a Palestinian killed two "Israelis" in the Old City, helping prompt an "Israeli" security crackdown.

On Wednesday, three similar stabbing operations were carried out.

Furthermore, in East al-Quds' Old City, an "Israeli" man was reportedly stabbed and injured by Shurooq Dweiyat, a 19-year-old Palestinian woman. The man, who was slightly injured shot and critically injured her. Dweiyat said the "Israeli" man attacked her.

Another Palestinian, 20-year-old Amjad Jundi, was shot and martyred by "Israeli" police after stabbing an "Israeli" soldier and attempting to steal his weapon, "Israeli" police alleged. The soldier sustained light injuries.

In Petah Tikva, a city in central "Israel", an "Israeli" settler was stabbed outside a local mall on Wednesday evening. According to the "Israeli" daily "Haaretz", he was in stable condition.

Police detained the Palestinian man who is from the al-Khalil area of the besieged West Bank.

Rioting in east al-Quds and the occupied West Bank had seen youths throwing stones and firebombs face off against "Israeli" security forces firing rubber bullets, tear gas and stun grenades.

The unrest had sparked fears of a broader uprising, even a third intifada.
