Hizbullah Calls for Rally in Beirut
Source: Alalam TV, 24-03-2008
Hizbullah is to hold a rally Monday in Beirut to mark the end of the 40-day mourning period for its assassinated commander Imad Moghniyeh.
Moghniyeh was martyred by a car bomb in Damascus on February 12. 'Israeli' intelligence service, Mossad, was implicated in the killing.
The 'Israeli' regime has been warned for retaliation.
After Moghniyeh's martyrdom last month, Hizbullah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah declared an "open war" on the 'Israeli' regime for committing a crime outside "the natural battlefield."
The rally in the southern suburbs of Beirut is an indication of the mood among Hizbullah supporters, and the eagerness for further confrontation.
Lebanese Muslim mourners were flocking to the grave of assassinated Moghniyeh, saying the man is a symbol of defiance.
He was Hizbullah's military commander at time of his death and the site where he and other prominent fighters are buried has been turned into a shrine visited by supporters.
Nasrallah is expected to address thousands of followers at the event in Beirut's southern suburbs.
Moghniyeh's tented gravesite lies a few kilometers from where the commemoration will take place.
More than a hundred Hizbullah fighters are also buried there, including Nasrallah's son, Hadi, who died fighting the 'Israeli' regime in 1997.
The site has seen a sharp increase in visits since Moghniyeh's death.
The grave, cut off part of a larger cemetery along southern Beirut's main highway, is adorned with pictures of martyred Hizbullah fighters and Quranic verses blare from loudspeakers.
Moghniyeh's grave lies at the center with a framed picture of him set atop surrounded by flowers.
