Netanyahu Pessimistic about ME Talks
Local Editor
Upon the visit he made to Washington, "Israeli" PM Benjamin Netanyahu voiced pessimism on Tuesday about the prospect of so-called "peace" with the Palestinian Authority [PA].
"Any deal, or any arrangement, must have "Israel" maintain the ability to defend itself by itself against threat, including from territories that are ceded," Netanyahu said.
He further added: "That's the most important provision," noting that "that is something that I don't see the Palestinians accepting now."
Netanyahu's comments came amid fresh Palestinian uprising.
He said that his settlement freeze "didn't help" in restarting the talks, adding that [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas "didn't come to the table."
It is worth mentioning that the international community has condemned "Israeli" settlement building as a threat to the talks by eroding the basis for a future Palestinian state.
When asked about eastern Occupied al-Quds, Netanyahu said "I think it has to remain under "Israeli" sovereignty."
During an earlier meeting with US President Barack Obama at the White House on Monday, Netanyahu tried not to appear as if he does not support the creation of a Palestinian state.
